A recent journey from Southampton's City Cruise Terminal to the Holiday Inn Express Gatwick in Crawley, England, was made all the more enjoyable by the excellent service offered by Eddie Manning's Airport Transfer Service and our genial driver, Mr. Manning himself.
We had booked with the company online with the final details done by telephone speaking with the owner who prefers to be involved in every transaction.

"As the business carries my name I personally handle every booking and only supply suitable drivers and vehicles to satisfy our clients' requirements."

Eddie Manning has been working in the London transport business since 1997 and typically covers 40-50,000 miles a year all around London and southeast England. He began in 1994 working as a manager in a car service and courier office. "Buying my first van, I worked for them and then another company for a couple of years before starting my own service in 1996. We are group of dedicated colleagues who all work full time providing limo type service to private individuals, families and business travellers.

Although our needs were a bit complicated, Manning stepped up to the plate and offered pier to hotel service with a stop at Gatwick Airport where we stored our heavier suitcases and a power wheelchair with Excess Baggage Company. This allowed us a couple of days to explore the area without having to drag the heavyweights with us. In total we were three adults, three large suitcases, three overnighters, a power wheelchair, a manual wheelchair and a power scooter. Believe it or not, everyone and everything fit into Eddie's Mercedes Viano van with plenty of legroom to spare.

Eddie is quick to point out that he cannot accommodate wheelchair passengers who cannot transfer to one of the comfortable seats and will direct potential clients to other reliable services that fill the bill if he can't.

Our drive took about an hour and a half through typical Friday traffic leaving London for a Bank Holiday weekend.

"We see thousands of cruise passengers each year and travel to the ports around London for almost every cruise arrival and departure," he told us as we wound our way through the scenic countryside. In addition to cruise transfers, Eddie and his crew also offer airport to airport transportation, airport to hotel and sightseeing trips to all the popular tourist spots in the UK.

All vehicles, limos or vans, are air conditioned and are licensed under the London Public Carriage Office. Upon arrival at the cruise port or airport, you are met by the uniformed driver, assisted with your luggage and ushered to your waiting vehicle. At your destination the service doesn't end at curbside with your driver helping you with your baggage right into the hotel or terminal. That's service!

Part of the fleet

Eddie and his wife also started a wheelchair rental service in 2006 when customers began asking about renting mobility devices.

"Our wheelchair rental service started as a spin off from the limo operation. Initially adding a wheelchair as an additional service for transfer clients, we started to get calls from people who only wanted a wheelchair no transport," Eddie explains. "Due to demand, we formed London Wheelchair Rental to cater for the rise in these requests. Now we have a large fleet of a number of different types of manual wheelchair for hire.

Over 100 wheelchairs available
We offer fast delivery to Heathrow airport and all fixed London addresses. We have an online booking system developed to enable easy reservation. We also have toll free US/Canada telephone number for those who wish to call. Rentals can be from 1 day upwards."

All wheelchairs are new self-propelled folding models. Standard lightweight wheelchairs have a cushion seat, foot rests, calf support and puncture proof tires. Ultra lightweight and heavy duty or wide seat wheelchairs are also available.
